Forest Park sits at the edge of several jurisdictions, and public safety services here often support each other in our neighborhood. Depending on the nature of the call, it may be answered by one or more officers from Multnomah County, Washington County, or the City of Portland.
On May 19, representatives from all three joined neighbors at Skyline Memorial Gardens:
Neighbors submitted questions in advance and brought more from the floor. The discussion covered:
Roads and traffic. Racing along NW Skyline, traffic enforcement in the neighborhood, and the use of speed monitoring vans and cameras.
Activity in and around the park. Gunshots heard in the park, illegal dumping, and what prevention looks like in a place with this much open space and this many access points.
How the three agencies work together. Where the jurisdictional lines fall, how the agencies coordinate across them, and who to call for which kind of issue.
Resources. How proposed budget cuts at the city and county could affect staffing and response.
Federal immigration enforcement. Neighbors asked about each agency’s policy on interaction with federal ICE and CBP activity.
